"I Will Shoot Who I Want"

The last few days have been a little strange in militia. My old CEO from when I was in militia has resubbed, and a large portion of our old corporation has been flying around together lately. I wish they would all join Minmatar militia, but their standings prevent it.

Last night a small gang of LateNighters were wandering around in various faction cruisers and bcs. Well, I was surprised for a minute or two when they said they were engaged on a station one jump away, and then called my old CEO primary.

But I can’t shoot him. It just feels weird…

Needless to say, by the time I reshipped and started making my way there, the engagement had already fizzled, so I didn’t have to make a choice. I kind of took my time though.

“You’re going to have to shoot them.” One of my corpmates noted afterwards. “If you’re going to be on this side, you’re going to have to kill our old corpmates.”

I then proceeded to tell him exactly who I would kill, which would consist of anyone I wanted to. ;) He then proceeded to argue with me, and we discussed what it would be like to drop militia altogether, blue the friends we had on either side, and just kill everyone else as pirates.

But there’s major problems with that idea. First, what if one group of friends starts killing the other? Then what? Just not engage? Also, access to missions is a must for some people to make their isk in our corp. And further more, there are some fights, that as a 5 man corp, we simply wouldn’t be able to take with gate guns.

And leaving our beloved corporation to rejoin the Amarr is not really an option to us.

So, what now?

To be honest, I really don’t know. I had other friends that I shot in the Amarr when I first joined Minmatar. One of them I had known since my old 0.0 days is barely speaking to me anymore. No matter how much you try to make things not personal and ‘just for fun,’ when you kill someone over and over again there’s bound to be some sort of real hostility born.

What should I do? I probably should just get over it and shoot them without hesitation. But, that probably won’t happen. At least not at first.

What will I do? Well, I won’t be playing Eve for a few days anyway due to RL stuff, so I guess in true Scarlett O’hara style “I won’t think about that today. I’ll think about it tomorrow.”

  1. Its nice that you are considerate of old ties. But the reality is that if he is in space (especially low sec!) and not blue to you, he is a fair target to be killed. If you feel guilty, you can always return his loot and corpse to him.

  2. Well Leaving both militia and staying friends is good except for one thing.... Be friends but not blue... The only blue a pirate should have is alt corps other than that its all fair game to shoot

  3. At the end of the day, this is just a game. No hard feelings. Would you refuse to play chess with a friend because there is the possibility that one of you will be defeated?

  4. And it potentially really let's down your fleetmates. The FC needs to be able to get into a fight and call targets without worrying that his people may or may not shoot at the targets he calls. If you were logistics and your old CEO was shooting at someone in your fleet would you not rep the CEOs target? I have former alliance mates and former corpmates out there too, but they know they are targets.

  5. Actually... let me quote you from your own post: http://www.gamerchick.net/2011/09/how-to-get-kicked-from-minmatar-militia.html

"First, we don’t blue anyone, unless they are our own alts. NO ONE."

Your friends can fly with you and/or get status with the militia, or they can be targets.

  6. Hey Susan,

It's totally possible to be friends with the enemy. I'm friends with a lot of people in Amarr.

    Dake + friends will understand.

  7. I saw Dake in system the other day. I can't wait to shoot him again. But due to my current lack of pod time, I'll just PvP vicariously through your battle reports.

BTW, as a point of interest, Dake was the VERY FIRST kill Manos ever got in FW. And I was leading our little gang at the time... :)

  8. Hahaha, I should probably try to remember that anything I type is liable to end up in this blog.

  9. Real hostility over internet spaceships? Time for a good long break from EVE for that friend I'd reckon.
And I agree with Acute Dragonis; Pirates should not have blues beyond logistics alts of corp members that is really. In BRRC we're friends with some other pirates but we're not blue, we'll just as happily shoot them as gang up on others to take down something big.
