Cannot Fight Without Griffin

What started out as a simple plan to check out the enemy setup inside a plex, became something far more devious.

I logged my Amarr alt on last night, for the sole purpose of warping into an enemy fleet to survey the landscape. It was not entirely necessary, and was probably more inspired by the boredom of having been heavily outnumbered for the past two hours than anything else.

Her catalyst is not particularly impressive. It sports a variety of mixed guns I found kicking around, and not much of anything in the lows or mids. Long ago, I used her to bash an Amarrian I-HUB or two.

I warped into the plex and landed in a pile of Amarr and Caldari destroyers. The Caldari quickly locked me up, and a member of PIE (an Amarrian role-playing corporation) convoed me to warn me not to shoot the Caldari.

“They’re friendly.” He said. “They are helping us, so please don’t shoot them.”

I assured him that I was just here to help.

Meanwhile, I was informing my actual fleet that they appeared to be in standard destroyers, with one griffin about 70K away from the warp-in, running the button. They had a few more than we did, judging from our own numbers x’ing up with what they could bring.

“The griffin might be a problem.” Our FC said. But we were more than ready to fight at this point, it being the first time we were able to even closely match their numbers.

“Susan…does your alt have guns on her ship?” I understood what he was asking before he explained it.

“Oh, that’s evil…but I’ll do it.” The griffin pilot was Caldari, so I would not have to worry about losing Amarr standings.

I started the slow burn (without an MWD) up to the button where the Griffin was running down the button.
“Okay…let’s do this.”

“Everyone align down the gate, and then on the count of three, we go.”

The friendly fleet cascaded into the plex, and at that moment I let loose on the griffin with my Amarr alt, smashing through part of his shield before he even had time to react. (I was trying very hard not to succumb to a fit of giggles as I was doing so.)

The griffin’s reaction was quick. Instead of attempting to jam me, he high-tailed it out of there, and his fleet quickly followed.

Good fights are fun, and always desired. But taking Kourmonen? That’s war. And…all’s fair, after all.

  1. I need to get my ships out of Ishukone station, so please hurry up and take Kourmonen back already. Also, have you read the latest dev blog yet?

    1. yeah, what about the surprise patch tomarrow? I wonder how the plexing changes being done so soon with so little time to prep will affect the warzone.

It seems to me that the Amarr are in a good position with so many systems flipable right away. It will be harder for us to plex them back!

  2. First post on your blog that I've read. You're as obnoxious sounding as I was told.

  3. I can't believe you back stabbed like that. That feels a lot like cheating.

  6. at my count it was 15 of the minmatar (not including susans alt) and 19 amarr/caldari, including the griffin. I was actually really surprised the amarr/caldari did not stand and fight. would have been quite a few loses on both sides, I am sure. just no griffin for the amarr/caldari

  7. Just wondering whether the insane rush to take Kourm over the weekened has anything to do with CCP bringing forward the FW changes. They make it a lot harder to flip/farm systems.

How is Hans by the way?

    1. Today's dev blog is the first I have heard about the fw rollout being early. We in Late Night had been talking about how we wanted the timing to work out come December and how we could go about holding most of the warzone at patch day (like we did at Inferno). The early patch really puts a wrench in our goal in that regard. Yeah, we might get Kourm out of it. Hopefully there will be many fights in and around Kourm with the new changes. But make no mistake, I LNA and minmatar milita had know two weeks ago that the FW changes would go live on Oct 23rd, we would have tried to do a lot more than take one system! I am curious how ti will play out since neither side was able to take advantage of patch day and both Minatar and Amarr militas own quite a few systems.

  10. I'm really dissapointed to see that you would resort to such tactics.

While having oposing Militia spies could be justified to an extent, activly engaging other side with spy-alts seems really like cheating. I guess the next step is putting your entire corp in the oposing side and really surprising them...where is the line?

    1. What line??!!

    2. yeah, i dont have any alts myself, in an enemy milita or otherwise, but the reply above, "what line?" really sums it up.

This is EvE. Spies, alts, miltia traitors, etc. have all always been a part of the game. There is no cheating in EvE that is not exploiting a known bug. Anything else is fair game. Have you ever seen that Adolph Enruth (whatever spelling) guy who jumps from militia to milita - has been in all 4 numberous times- and exclusivly attacks purples because he knows he dosen't show up on their overview and he can therefor surprise gank people? I don't like him or his tactic, but it is not cheating. And it is far worse than what susan did.

Susan's mistake is that now the amarr have seen who her alt is, and so it is useless as a spy anymore. She got her one go with it and it is spent.

    3. How awesome it must be to be compared to Adolf. Still, if the shoe fits...

Tell me is Susan's next step to sit on a gate smartbombing all the pods that jump through a la Santo Trafficante?

    4. I have only seen that santo guy once... I guess he dosent play in my TZ. Still, to carry the analogy between Susan and Adolf to Susan and Santo, would that not be more like Susan uses a smart bomb on her amarr milita alt to pod a caldari pilot one time and how that is somewhat similar to what Santo does? Yes, it would be more like this situation here. But I can see your fondness for hyperbole.

Anyone can be compared to Adolf. Here, I will compare you to him.

You post on Susan's blog anonymously while Adolf does not post of Susan's blog at all, as far as I know. If he does, he must be doing so anonymously, too.

The shoe fits! You are like Adolf!

But I am glad you got the point I was making. There's nothing wrong with having an alt in the other militia or using it against said militia whether that is by spying and passing intel or by shooting a griffin in a plex. This is EvE where people can do those things, and many do.

    5. Sure all is fair in EvE and everybody has a right to play their own way, however it is a slippery slope if Susan one one hand tries to walk the high line an on the other uses tactics such as this.

The bottom line is what kind of player they want to be, and as you said there is nothing stopping anyone for hoining the opposition Militia and shooting allies,...well almost nothing, just ones own morale compass!
